Cultural heritage promoters awarded in Chisinau

The Cultural Heritage Awards Gala took place in Chisinau in connection with the International Day for Monuments and Sites. A total of seven prizes were awarded to cultural heritage promoters. Two of them were offered by the Chisinau City Hall, IPN reports.

The Award for citizens’ involvement in the protection, rehabilitation and promotion of cultural heritage was received by Constantin Vlas, Elena Nikifor and Iulian Ciobanu, for the Steam Mill project in Mereşeni village of Hancesti district.

The Romanian Cultural Institute’s Award for Cultural Heritage Research was offered to archaeologist Ion Tentiuc, while the Award for the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage went to the Public Association Monumentum.

The Award for Promoting Archaeological Heritage was offered to the National Archaeological Agency, while the Award for Complementing and Preserving Cultural Heritage – to Vasile Iucal, both being offered by Chisinau City Hall.

The Pro-Heritage Media Award went to TeleRadio Moldova Company for the program “Heritage Moldova”.

The U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova won the Grand Prix of the current edition of the Gala for the project “Assumption of the Virgin Mary Church in Căușeni”.

During the event, mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban noted that he is grateful for the extraordinary contributions of individuals and organizations that devoted time and energy to protecting, rehabilitating and promoting our cultural heritage. “We have a lot of beautiful projects that were implemented or in progress. We are talking about schools, libraries and other cultural institutions and also about investments for the archaeological sector,” the mayor stated in the event.

The winners of the seven prizes were chosen by a jury that consisted of: Sergiu Musteață – archaeologist, doctor of history, university professor, expert in the field of cultural heritage; Silviu Tabac – historian, doctor of history, associate professor, state heraldist of the Republic of Moldova, head of the Heraldry Office within the Office of the President of the Republic of Moldova; Ion Ursu – archaeologist, doctor of history,  associate professor, director of the Institute of Cultural Heritage.
