Cultural agenda for February
The Organ Hall will present on 2 February the “Vivaldi Evening” show, organised in collaboration with the French Alliance in Moldova. The concert will be given by the National Chamber Orchestra, Ilona Stepan’s Chamber Choir, conducted by Didier Talpain /France/. The anniversary soiree of composer Constantin Rusnac will take place on 6 February. A chamber concert given by instrumentalists Ilian Garnet (violin) and Serghei Racenco (viola) will take place on 14 February. The concert “Warsaw Piano Trio”, organised in collaboration with the Bucharest-based Polish Institute, will be held on 19 February. “An Evening of Classic Romantic Songs” will be held on 21 February, while on 24 February starting at 4PM the Orchestra of Accordionists of the music school no.3 will present the spectacle “Accordion Brio”. All the performances hosted by the Organ Hall, except the last one, will start at 6PM.
The National Philharmonic Hall “Serghei Lunchevici” (NPH) will present on 1 February a symphony concert featuring the Symphony Orchestra of the NPH, conducted by Igor Sarmientos /Guatemala/. The musical soiree of the cymbal player Andrei Mustea will take place on 5 February, while the entertainment concert dedicated to the Year of Youth, themed “Eurovision Hopes” will be held on 7 February. A symphony concert will be given on 8 February: soloists – pianists Melisa Ursu, Iulia Coreni, Roman Bass, conductor – Mihail Sechkin. The Folklore Orchestra will give a concert on 13 February. On 15 February, the Philharmonic Orchestra will bring into the attention of the symphony lovers the show “American Music in Moldova” (music by Barber, Hovhaness, Hanson). Schoolchildren are invited on 20 February, starting at 1 PM and 2:30 PM, to the “Vienna Ball” (I. Strauss), and university students on 22 February to “The Waltz King” (I. Strauss) concert. All the performances will be held in the Grand Hall, starting at 6PM, except for the concerts for schoolchildren.
The plays of G. Puccini “Turandot”, “Nabucco” and “Boema” will be presented on the stage of the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet on 5, 6 and respectively 8 February. The “Don Giovanni” opera by W.A.Mozart will be held on 10 February, starting at 4PM. The concert “The Royal Tournament” will be held on 21 February, starting at 6 PM.
On 2 February the puppet theatre “Licurici” will present to the little spectators the tale “The Brave Toy Soldier” by H.Ch. Andersen. The play will be restaged on 13 February in the Russian language. The tale “Swan’s Flight” by T. Jukov (after H.Ch. Andersen) will be staged on 3 and 6 February. The play “Tumbling through a tale” by L. Sobetsky will be staged on 10 February, “Doctor Aybolit” by K. Chukovsky – on 16 February, “The Snowmen” by V. Boldishor – on 17 February, “Prince Charming, the Tear-Begotten” by M. Eminescu – on 21 February, “The Blackbird’s Song” by Annie M.G. Schmidt – on 23 February, “Sheherezada’s Nights”, after the play “1001 Nights” – on 24 February, the “Purple Flower” by S. Aksakov – on 27 February. Children are invited to view the plays starting at 11 AM.
The Luceafarul Theatre will stage the plays “West Side Story” by A. Laurents – on 2 February, “The Cherry Orchard” by A.P.Chekhov – on 3 February, “The Good Man from Sezuan” by B.Brecht – on 7 February, “Chewleandra” by L. Rebreanu – on 8 February, “The Threepenny Opera” by B. Brecht – on 10 February, “Romeo and Juliet” by W. Shakespeare – on 14 February, “The Will, I Part” and “ The Will, II Part” by Gh. Ursky – on 15 and 17 February, “Questa e la vita dolce?..” by Gh.Ursky – on 21 February, “The Masquerade” by M.Lermontov – on 22 February, “The Cherry Orchard” by A.P.Chekhov – on 24 February and “Smiles of a Summer Night” by I. Bergman – on 29 February. All the performances will start at 5 PM. The Luceafarul Theatre comes with some shows for children too: “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum, “The Snow Queen” by H.C. Andersen, “Cinderella” by Brothers Grimm and “The Master Cat” by Ch.Perrault that will be held on 3, 10, 17 and, respectively 24 February. The plays will begin at 12 PM.
The Grand Hall of the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre will stage on 1 February “The Doctor Despite Himself” by Moliere, on 2 February the play “Ghetto” by J.Sobol, on 3 February – “The Last Hour” by M. Sebastian. The play “The Snakeskin” by T.Williams is scheduled for 7 February. On 8 and 9 February the troupe of the theatre “M. Eminescu” will play Romeo and Juliet by W. Shakespeare, while on 10 February – “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. The premiere of the play “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” by E.Albee will take place on 16 and 17 February. The play “The South Pole” by M. Karge will be performed on 28 and 29 February.
“The Door” by M. Vishniek will be performed in the Valeriu Cupchea Studio Hall of the M. Eminescu Theatre on 5 and 6 February. The play “Apple Flowers” by V. Tzurkanu will be staged on 12 and 13 February. “Family Stories” by B. Srblianovic will be played on 19 and 20 February, while on 26 and 27 February – “Snows from Old Times” by D.Solomon. Both plays in the Grand Hall and in the Studio Hall will be performed starting at 6 PM.
