Cultural activities to be staged in Chisinau throughout December 1

For the first time since Moldova marks the National Day of Romania, cultural activities will be organized in Chisinau throughout the day. The festivities will start in the morning of December 1 with the laying of flowers at the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great, at 9am.

In a news conference at IPN, the representative of the Civic Platform “Actiunea 2012” Vitalie Prisacaru said the laying of flowers will involve members of the Parliament of Romania. At 10am, there will be mounted a people’s marathon that will set off from the monument to the late singers Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici, at the entrance to “Valea Morilor” Park. The marathon will be opened by Romanian Olympic champion Maria Olaru, who will come to Chisinau especially for this occasion. A religious movie theater in the open air will be inaugurated near the Church “Saint Teodora de la Sihla” at 11am.

Anatol Revenco, deputy head of the National Liberal Party that forms part of the Union Council, said the main event of the day starts in front of the Chisinau Lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi” at 2pm. Young unionists will go on a march to the Embassy of Romania, where they will sing the anthem “Wake up, Romanian”. Afterward, they will go to the Government Building, where they will form a human chain around the building. A recital of patriotic songs will be given in the Great National Assembly Square starting at 2pm.

The chairman of the Democratic Forum of Romanians from Moldova Nicolae Dabija said that December 1 is not only the National Day of Romania. It is also the National Day of the Romanians everywhere. On December 1, this year it is 95 years of the Great Union of 1918. Traditionally, on this day the Democratic Forum of Romanians from Moldova organizes performances of music and patriotic discourses, but this year the activities will be united with those of the Civic Platform “Actiunea 2012” and the Union Council. A festive performance will take place at the Theater “Ginta Latina” at 4pm.

A board with the map of Great Romania will be set up in Europe Square of the central park of Chisinau. Those who will want will have their pictures taken there.

Coordinator of the local office in Moldova of the People’s Movement Party of Romania Doru Dendiu said that for the first time in Chisinau, the December 1 program covers the whole day. “It’s a pity that more Romanian officials cannot take part in the festivities, but this will be probably possible from next year. It is important that more Romanian politicians, regardless of their political orientation, honor such events in Moldova,” he stated.

A concert and a Romanian round dance will start in the Great National Assembly Square at 7pm. There will be launched 95 tricolor lampions that will mark the 95 years of the Great Union.
