Cultivation of hallucinogenic plants spreads in Moldova – police
About 300 kg of cannabis specially prepared for export were confiscated from two inhabitants of Calarasi raion. Police say that the phenomenon of cultivating substances with psychotropic effect for export is spreading.
Nicolae Dobos, Interior official, told on Tuesday, November 7 at a briefing that a considerable amount of marijuana was found out in the household of Ion Muruc aged 30 who was previously subject to proceedings in the Russian Federation for selling drugs. At the same time, police in concert with the Intelligence Service, have identified the exporter of drugs and announced the law enforcement bodies of the Russian Federation about the places and methods used in selling the drugs.
According to Dobos, in 2006 several drug plantations were found out, hidden in corn plantations or private households. A cupful of marijuana costs MDL 50-60 in Moldova and on the Russian market USD 10.
The cited source says that the new business practiced by many citizens of Moldova is developing, and the quality of the production becomes higher, due to the fact that the seeds of marijuana are exported from places were this occupation is practically an industry. Over the last 2 months, policemen found out 435 plantations of drug cultures and destroyed 10 tonnes of weed and over 14 tonnes of poppy.
During the first 10 months of 2006 three were registered 1828 offences linked to the preparation, selling and use of drugs, including 16 teenagers involved. From the total 8750 persons registered at the Drug Health Center, 750 were registered this year.
