Cuciurgan power plant stops delivering energy to the right bank from January 1

The power purchase contract with the Moldovan Thermoelectric Power Plant in the Transnistrian region (MGRES) has not been extended. Thus, as of January 1, 2025, the Cuciurgan power plant will stop delivering energy to the right bank of the Dniester. The information was confirmed to IPN by Victor Binzari, an adviser to the director of Energocom.

"The contract with the Cuciurgan power plant has not been extended. We have asked for the extension and the answer from the MGRES colleagues is that as long as they have no guarantee that gas will be supplied to the Transnistrian region, they will not be able to sign a contractˮ, Victor Binzari said, adding that the energy supply will be stopped from MGRES starting January 1.

Victor Binzari said that Energocom has concluded contracts with partners in Romania and Bulgaria, as well as with all energy producers in the country. The adviser to the director of Energocom noted that at the same time, the company will resort to the OPCOM energy exchange in order to supplement the consumption needs.

The adviser to the director of Energocom explained that it is not a problem of buying energy, but of transporting energy from Romania to Moldova, referring to a deficiency in technical capacity. Today Energocom had a joint meeting with the operator of the transmission system in the Republic of Moldova "Moldelectricaˮ and the Romanian one - "Transelectricaˮ which have identified a mechanism to work in this period, Victor Binzari said.

Victor Binzari said that the involvement of citizens is also needed in the whole process, urging them to limit energy consumption during peak hours and to use household appliances that can be programmed to work at night.
