The Coalition for Unity and Wellbeing (CUB) condemns the virulent barrage of Russian missiles launched onto a number of Ukrainian cities today, December 29. According to the party, the striking of civilian targets and critical infrastructure in the winter is a premeditated action of genocide against the peaceful people of Ukraine. CUB calls on the Moldovan government to align itself with the countries that officially support the regime of sanctions against Russia and plead for bringing the authors and executers of this genocide to international justice, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the party.
“We call on the authorities to immediately bring the existing warning and emergency communication systems in order, to organize, equip and shelter the population in case of an imminent threat. The avoidance of this subject only worsens latently the existing problems related to the training of civilian population, eluding the direct obligations of the government in the field of national security,” says a CUB statement.
The parry underlines the necessity of taking more measures to strengthen the military defense potential and to secure Moldova’s airspace by reinforcing the checkpoints on the administrative line of the territory controlled by the secessionist Transnistrian administration, preventing the forward movement of troops disguised as civilians or in uniforms without distinctive signs, which can immediately destabilize the situation in Moldova.
“The authorities have legal and effective leverage to discourage and criminalize the illicit recruitment of citizens of the Republic of Moldova into the military bodies of the Russian aggressor state or private groups (Wagner) involved in the commission of war crimes on the territory of Ukraine. It’s time to regard the involvement of citizens of the Republic of Moldova into the military bodies of the Operational Group of Russian Forces and the separatist paramilitary bodies of Transnistria as mercenarism in military operations on behalf of the aggressor, which is criminalized by the Penal Code. We demand that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova should withdraw the nationality of the Republic of Moldova from persons employed in non-constitutional bodies of the Transnistrian regime,” runs the statement.
The CUB calls on all the democratic parties in the Republic of Moldova to show solidarity and unity so as to create a common front for a national policy to anchor the country in the Western security space.
