The Superior Council of Magistrates (CSM) has decided to forward to the Prosecutor General’s Office an incriminating note that led to the suspension of a number of judges last week. CSM acting president Dorel Musteață said it’s regrettable that some members of the system oppose internal investigations.
“The CSM is the guarantor of judicial independence and it is its duty to verify any petition from the law enforcement, government agencies or any judge”, said Musteață in opening the latest CSM meeting.
“It’s regrettable that some members of the system oppose internal investigations,” said Musteață, adding that he would ask the CSM to share last week’s note with the PGO so that it could look at the allegations.
Last week, a number of high-ranking judges, including Supreme Court president Ion Druță, were removed from their administrative functions in reaction to an incriminatory note submitted by a fellow judge. The CSM examined the note in a secret meeting on June 25.
