A crosswalk situated on Miron Costin St in Chisinau was secured with incorporated photovoltaic buttons. The photovoltaic road buttons play a warning role and guide traffic by increasing drivers’ attention at night or in conditions of low visibility, IPN reports.

The Chisinau City Hall said that this is something of a novelty for Chisinau. The system was provided by a business entity to be used on a trial basis. It consists of intermittent or constant LED devices that use solar energy.

If the devices prove their efficiency in increasing security and drivers’ attention, the authorities will consider the possibility of using photovoltaic buttons at other crosswalks in the city, primary those that are considered with high risk to pedestrians.
