The criteria for establishing single-member constituencies are rather vague, Pavel Postica, programs director at Promo-LEX Association, stated in the program “Politics” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.
“If we divide the number of voters we had in the last elections, which is used as a basis of calculation for electoral districts, we determine that on the territory controlled by the constitutional authorities alone, we have to establish at least 47 electoral districts,” stated Pavel Postica. According to him, this means that four districts remain for the rest of the voters.
Valeriu Munteanu, deputy chairman of the Liberal Party, said the criteria for establishing constituencies are political in character. “The law can be extended so as to tailor and draw any constituency as the PDM and/or PSRM like,” he stated.
Socialist MP Vasile Bolea said the law to amend the electoral system that was adopted recently clearly defines the criteria and conditions for establishing electoral districts. He proposed that 15 electoral districts should be set up abroad, based on the data on the diaspora provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Seven districts should be established in Russia, two in Italy, one in the EU, one in the CIS and one or two over the ocean. “Five constituencies should be created for our citizens who live on the left side of the Nistru,” stated Vasile Bolea.
