{ Info-Prim Neointerview with singer Cristofor Aldea Teodorovici, son of the late Ion and Doina Aldea Teodorovici. Interview 9 of 12 in the “Year 2012 in the life of Moldova and its people” Series.} [ – The year 2012 was dedicated to the great artists Ion and Doina Aldea Teodorovici. How did the year pass? What events, memories and feelings are worthy of being remembered?] – This year brought many joys. It began in an inspiring way with a tour with my band, Adriana Rusu and actor Nicolae Jelescu of the “Alexei Mateevici” Theater. We worked a lot, but it was a truly fruitful year, because I realized from the beginning that I must play many guitar songs. In Paris, in New York, in Washington, we were welcomed by the Romanian and Moldovan embassies, by all the Romanians and Moldovans there. We also performed in many schools and lyceums in the country. The lyceum in Buiucani sector, on the street where I and my parents lived, was named after them – the Artistic Lyceum “Ion and Doina Aldea Teodorovici”, which really made me happy. In Paris, I had three concerts during the summer and autumn, where I sang the music of my parents, and some of our songs with a touch of contemporary jazz. In all these concerts, we tried to introduce that jazz note which inspires us and brought new life into my parents’ music. As regards the concerts in Moldova, there was one on April 20, with Dorel Burlacu Band, who has a team of 20 people. In similar membership we performed at the 10th edition of the “Two Twin Hearts” Festival. In 2012, we marked 30 years since the passing away of my parents, I turned 30 and we had a lot of dedicated events. We also had a few concerts in Romania. [ – How was the anniversary edition of the “Two Twin Hearts”?] – Every year we have something special at the festival and this year we brought participants for the first time from Ireland, China, Serbia and other countries. It was also for the first time I performed with the orchestra I had the concert on April 20 –I, alongside Adriana Rusu, Valentin Boghean, Nicu Tarna, Tatiana Cerga, Karizma. I think it was really inspiring for me. I would have liked the orchestra to accompany the participants, but this meant additional upkeep and accommodation costs, because the participants should come 4-5 days in advance to rehearse with the orchestra. I plan such a project, but we’ll see how realistic it is. [ – What should we learn from events of the Year Ion and Doina Aldea Teodorovici? We, who have to remember and miss them.] – This year the young generation, post-2000, rediscovered this couple, whom they know only from songs, videos and interviews. These events were a good way to promote their art, to rediscover the music that was composed but not listened enough. During the festival, we try to promote those songs that weren’t broadcasted too often on radio or TV, such as “With your name”, covered by Nina Crulicovschi, or “Jealousy”, covered by Zinaida Julea. There are many other songs that have unfortunately been forgotten with the passing of time and must be recovered because they are beautiful and I think we don’t have enough simple and beautiful music. I feel that we are in a time oriented towards money instead of inspiration and longing for people. Perhaps that’s why in the 80s-90s they had more inspiration, because they longed for each other. I guess longing creates the most beautiful love songs. This year, there were many events in schools and lyceums and we are currently trying to release a new CD and a new film about Ion and Doina. I think that to a certain extent the dedicated year reached its goal. We’ll launch a new site we’ve been working on since summer, with materials about Ion and Doina. I think this year had a considerable impact upon the people. Many recalled their songs and started singing them again and drawing inspiration from the art created by Ion and Doina. The film will be a documentary and will include footage from interviews given by Ion and Doina, from their concerts, and about what was said about them in the 90s. I insist that I would love an animated movie about them. Perhaps drawn with a crayon about how they went in villages and sang for a piece of bread, about that wave of emotions in the 80s, when people weren’t in the best financial situation, but music helped them go on. My parents were probably among the main promoters of our country and of our nation. Because we don’t have much footage with them, I’d like to make an animated movie. However, this is only an idea and we are negotiating with several studios in Moldova. [ – Do you think that artists Ion and Doina Aldea Teodorovici would like what happens in Moldova in 2012- in culture, in politics, in the people’s way of being? How much does the current situation correspond to what they pleaded for?] – I’ve been with them only in childhood, until 10 years. I can only speak my opinion. I don’t think I can say what they felt because they aren’t here anymore. It’s a difficult situation and yet I feel we can still succeed. For me, it is important to join the European community and probably this way we’ll succeed as a people and nation to preserve our values and at the same time gain access to a more modern and developed world. If we are to speak about their dreams, about unification with Romania, about reuniting the Romanian people, this is a complicated issue and the only solutions is probably to join the European community and to issue more Romanian passports, which would lead to a juridical unification. [ – Did 2012 remove any of the suspicions still haunting our society about the circumstances of the tragic road accident in which they died?] – I don’t want to comment anymore. I don’t know what will be found and what won’t. If something will be revealed in time, then let it be so. They aren’t near me anymore, they aren’t with us anymore and even if it is found who killed them, I don’t think this will change much. [ –You mentioned an album in the memory of Ion and Doina Aldea Teodorovici. When will it be launched? What do you know about other people’s plans to honor the memory and promote the songs of Ion and Doina Aldea Teodorovici?] – We plan to release the album in their memory by the end of January, the beginning of February, with all those songs in sympho-jazz style with a symphonic orchestra. I will pursue my own musical career, but I will continue to have concerts in the memory of Ion and Doina. We’ll make songs that haven’t been sung yet. Besides, this spring I’ll try to gather money for a concert with my father’s music composed for theater and film with a symphonic orchestra. I think it will be a success because this music hasn’t been performed live for 20 years. We’ll also start popularizing those classic melodies, symphonic rhapsodies composed by father. We’ll promote this couple, Ion and Doina, by any means. [Irina Ţurcanu, Info-Prim Neo]
