The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) should have immediately opened an investigation following the footage published by MP Iurie Reniță, where Igor Dodon is taking part in a meeting with Vladimir Plahotniuc and Sergey Yaralov, said former vice director of the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) Cristina Țărnă. She noted the legitimacy of those recordings cannot be doubted as Vladimir Plahotniuc knew that a video was being made, while Igor Dodon didn’t refute those discussions, IPN reports.
Cristina Țărnă said that initially Igor Dodon should have been questioned as a suspect.
“I fear the PGO’s reaction to the last published videos. It said that it cannot examine the case as there was no complaint. But this is not true. The PGO can launch an investigation based on a report by the prosecution body that quoted the press, saw and wants to verify. It can do this and it happened so earlier. The PGO informed us itself about different cases stared based on information published by the pres. It’s not true that the PGO cannot examine a case based on public reports,” Cristina Țărnă stated in the program “Expertise Hour” on Jurnal TV channel.
She wondered if the PGO will really investigate the footage featuring President Igor Dodon.
As to the videos where Igor Dodon, Vladimir Plahotniuc and Sergey Yaralov have a discussion, the ex-vice director of the NAC said the sides indirectly confirmed the legality and authenticity of these.
“One cannot ignore the evidence. As long as one of the sides admitted to the existence of that footage and the other side does not deny its existence, as Igor Dodon didn’t refute that the discussion took place and that he said what he said, this mean that those videos were authentic and for me this is evident,” stated Cristina Țărnă.
According to her, the PGO has all the instruments needed to examine the case.
The Prosecutor General’s Office at end-May issued a press release, saying the videos presented by MPs Iurie Reniță and Lilian Carp will be examined within a criminal case started earlier. Before this, the PGO announced that it cannot examine the case in the absence of an official request.
