The National Anticorruption Center is most probably not controlled politically, but some deviations are not excluded, the Center’s vice director Cristina Tarna said in the program “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.
“No pressure was exerted on me and nobody tried to influence me. We started many criminal cases against decision makers of the PDM from the party’s local organizations. It’s not true that we protect the representatives of this party. They speak about political influence, but I didn’t feel this thing from inside. However, I cannot guarantee that it is fully absent,” stated Tarna.
An argument provided by Cristina Tarna is that the National Anticorruption Center wasn’t distributed politically. “The director of the Center Viorel Chetraru didn’t want to occupy this post, but he was provoked to take part in the contest. It was the most public contests at our institution I’ve ever known. Mister Chetraru turned out to be the best one,” she stated.
The Center’s vice director considers there are chances for the institution that she represents to be reformed by the model of the National Anticorruption Directorate of Romania. “The National Anticorruption Directorate is a subdivision of the Prosecutor’s Office and works based on a special law. In our country, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office works based on an order of the prosecutor general. There is logistic support, but more independence and prerogatives are needed,” she said.
