Cristina Iovu wins gold at European weightlifting champs

The Moldovan weightlifters continue to achieve excellent results at the European Championships taking place in Turkey’s Antalya. After Oleg Sirghi won silver, on April 10 Cristina Iovu became an absolute European champion in the 53kg class, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The 19-year-old athlete lifted a total of 207 kg, winning the snatch event (91 kg) and the throwing event (116 kg). According to the coaches, Cristina Iovu has great chances of qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics.
The same day, Alexandru Dudoglo finished sixth in the 62kg class, while his brother Iurie ranked last in the snatch.
Moldovan athletes Serghei Cechier (69kg class), Alexandru Dudoglo, Alexandru Spac (77kg), Gheorghe Cernei (85kg), Anatol Caracu (94 kg), and Natalia Priscepa (75kg) will compete the next days.
The championships in Turkey are a qualification stage for the Summer Olympic Games.
