The crisis in the Transnistria region, caused by the halt in the supply of gas from the Russian Federation, continues to give headaches to the people in the region and to the authorities. According to local media, the cessation of gas supplies led to the closure of industrial enterprises, except for food factories, IPN reports.
The so-called minister of economic development of the region Sergei Obolonik said that despite the difficult situation, the electricity charge will not be increased. However, the situation affects the power lines and some of the streets in particular localities remained without electricity due to overload.
Rescuers ensured the transportation of firewood to a number of households. At the hotline of the so-called Ministry of Internal Affairs, calls are received continuously. Most of the requests refer to firewood. Left without gas, many households begin to use stoves.
Public transport and taxis were considerably reduced. Thus, taxi services became more expensive, especially since the cars were powered by gas, but now were switched to gasoline and diesel fuel, where possible. Meanwhile, only the vehicles belonging to state-owned enterprises and organizations can be refueled with methane at gas stations in the region. This decision was taken by the authorities.
The self-styled leader of the Trans Istrian region Vadim Krasnoselsky said that the crisis situation in the energy sector is under control and that he would not allow a collapse in the region.
