Under the jurisdiction of the City Hall, a crisis cell will be set up. The mayor of the capital, Ion Ceban, signed a decree establishing the crisis cell, as a result of last night's case in the capital, when a gas cylinder was evacuated from an apartment.
"Today, at the first hour we had a meeting with the people in charge of exceptional situations in regard to last night's case, when a leaking gas cylinder was found in an apartment of a residential block in the Botanica district, and the residents were evacuated. I demanded maximum responsibility and the prevention of such situations by verifying other apartment buildings, in order to avoid tragic cases similar to the one in the Râșcani district", said the mayor, quoted in the City Hall press release.
According to Ion Ceban, the crisis cell will be responsible of promptly responding to any risk or crisis situation.
A gas cylinder was evacuated last night from an apartment on Dacia Boulevard, the Botanica district of the capital. The firefighters' intervened after a gas leak was reported by the building residents. The apartment was only connected to the electricity grid, while being disconnected from the natural gas network. For several hours, the apartment block was disconnected from the network, while the residents were evacuated. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said that the propane-butane gas cylinder was detected in the apartment's kitchen, while the gas leak occurred due to a faulty faucet.
In October last year, an explosion occurred in an apartment building on Moscova Boulevard, 11/5, following a cylinder gas leak. Several apartments on three floors were destroyed. Five people died, including a child. The criminal investigation was ceased because the owner of the apartment where the explosion occurred died.
