Lawyer Ilie Rotaru, who is a shareholder in SA “Gemeni”, said that criminal groups that are protected by prosecutors and MPs continue working within this company. Under the European Court of Human Rights’ judgment, the Government pays damages to pseudo-shareholders, while those who really are shareholders in SA “Gemeni” do not get anything.
In a news conference hosted by IPN, Ilie Rotaru said that he managed for a period the joint stock company “Gemeni” and is now a shareholder. “The criminal case started against those from “Gemeni”, over the organization of a criminal group, has been handled since 2004. The case had been suspended for 17-18 years by different methods, including by order. Its examination was resumed almost a year ago under court decisions. But the prosecutors do not take any action,” stated the lawyer.
He noted that he has a multitude of documents referring to SA “Gemeni”. “In 2006, the criminal grouping that was then led by Vladimir Voronin started to take active, rather harsh measures. In 2006, the criminal grouping under the management of Vladimir Voronin and Vladimir Plahotniuc was created. The material I possess and the evidence available in cases handled by the NAC and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office show that Mister Voronin and Moister Plahotniuc managed a criminal organization that continues working. But Mister Voronin sits in Parliament as an MP,” said Ilie Rotaru.
Two cases related to “Gemeni” SA were solved by the ECHR. According to the lawyer, both of the cases were solved absolutely inequitably as the Moldovan authoress lied to the ECHR. The third case is being examined and the Court is to pass its judgment.
“Under the last judgment passed by the ECHR, the Government was obliged to pay to pseudo-shareholders. The Government pays the €3.6 million damages and conceded real estate owned by “Gemeni” in an illogical way. Today the Government should own over 40% of the shares. Regrettably, everything possible was done to prevent the Government from owning these shares so that they remained property of people close to Plahotniuc. This is swindle in which the current authorities became involved,” stated Ilie Rotaru.
He also said that he filed multiple complaints to the Ministry of Justice, the responsible parliamentary commission, the Government and the President, but all in vain. He asked for audiences at the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and with the President, but without any result.
Shareholder Aurelia Rusu said that during at least 11 years, damage to the value of millions of lei has been caused to the state as the unofficial rent on spaces in “Gemeni” was enormous, while the declared rent was modest. Those who committed these irregularities sold property of the company and the shares they owned. They also went to the ECHR and won the case, being awarded €3.6 million damages. The state pays this money to them, but they are real offenders because in the period they didn’t pay taxes and caused damage to the state.
