Criminal charges have been brought against two teleshopping companies in Chisinau. According to the complainants, the marketed products not only did not improve their health, but damaged it, Info-Prim Neo reports. Prosecutor Gheorghe Ciobanu held a press conference on Tuesday, February 28, where he declared that the prosecution was started for abuse in office by people managing the work of the two companies. In 2010 and 2011, several consumers complained about the physio-therapeutical products marketed by Pradamirex Ltd and Tectonica-Med Ltd. According to plaintiffs, these companies advertised their products via teleshopping. The prosecutor said that according to the regulation approved by the government, only medical devices that obtained the national conformity brand SM could be sold on the market, a fact seemingly ignored by these companies. Gheorghe Ciobanu added that the companies neglected many provisions of the regulation and sold products which didn’t pass state control and without any authorization. The price of some products reached 60,000 lei. In Moldova, abuse in office is punished with a fine of 150 to 400 contravention units or 3 years of prison and a ban from certain functions for 2 to 5 years.
