Criminal case started over incident in security zone
The prosecutors opened a criminal case over the incident that happened at a peacekeeping post near Vadul lui Voda, where a resident of Pirita village was shot fatally by a Russian peacekeeper on January 1, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the legal case was started for deliberate causing of serious bodily injuries as a result of which the victim died, in accordance with Article 151, paragraph (4) of the Penal Code. The punishment for such an offense is 8 to 15 years in jail.
The investigation will be conducted by the Investigations and Offenses in the Armed Forces Division of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The 18-year-old victim was driving a car. He was shot in the back by a Russian officer after he displaced the safety barrier of the peacekeeping post, but did not stop. The young man died in the hospital one hour after he was operated.
