Criminal Assets Recovery Agency sequestrates property worth almost 4m lei

During the six months of activity, the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency sequestrated a bank account, two units of transport and 11 apartments and plots of land to the total value of 3.8 million lei, the Agency’s director Otilia Nicolai stated in the meeting of the Parliamentary legal commission for appointments and immunities, IPN reports.

According to Otilia Nicolai, none of the proceeds of criminal activity have been used so far as the Government hasn’t yet approved the regulations concerning the assessment, management and utilization of confiscated goods.

The Agency’s director also said that recently Parliament extended the powers and duties of the institution she heads, but the number of employees remained unchanged. She underlined the necessity of increasing the number of personnel units by 29, which is almost twice more than now.

According to Otilia Nicolai, the Agency experiences a shortage of prosecution, financial and IT investigation specialists and lacks modern computation and network equipment and company cars.
