Credit worth about 14m USD for improving water supply and sewerage services

Moldova will receive a credit worth approximately 14 million USD to implement the National Water Supply and Sewerage Project. The Parliament Wednesday ratified the financing agreement between the Government of Moldova and the International Development Association, Info-Prim Neo reports. The money will be used to improve the coverage, quality, efficiency and reliability of the water supply and sewerage services in Balti, Cahul, Causeni, Floresti, Orhei, Soroca, and Ungheni towns. Water pipes will be installed at the divisions of Apa-Canal. A wastewater treatment station, pipelines and pumping stations will be restored. There will be sent building and pumping machines and constructed new sewerage systems. The artesian wells and aqueducts in 50 villages will be repaired. The project also envisages the improvement of energy efficiency in the water supply and wastewater treatment activities at local level, reduction of gas emissions with greenhouse effect, carrying out of energy audits, hydrologic optimization and repair of the electro-mechanic equipment. The credit is repayable in 40 years, with a grace period of 10 years. It will be repaid in half-yearly installments paid every year on June 15 and December 15, staring with June 15, 2018 and ending with December 15, 2047. The interest rate is 0.75%, while the commitment fee for the main non-withdrawn sum of the credit is 0.5% a year. The agreement was signed in Chisinau on June 2, 2008.
