The dissolution of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova by President Maia Sandu is a good decision, Siegfried Mureșan, who heads the European Parliament’s Delegation for relations with the Republic of Moldova, said after President Sandu signed the decree to dissolve Parliament. “To be able to help the Republic of Moldova, we need a credible Parliament, with a transparent majority. We need a Parliament that would support reforms in administration, in ensuring the rule of law and independence of justice, in the banking system, in healthcare. These reforms are needed to increase the people’s living standards and to maximally fructify the support instruments offered by the European Union. We don‘t need a Parliament that would attack the rule of law by order of Igor Dodon,” Siegfried Mureșan posted on Facebook, being quoted by IPN.
The MEP noted all these things weren’t possible with a majority formed around Igor Dodon, who attacked the rule of law and blocked reforms. “The respect for the rule of law and implementation of reforms are key conditions for the European Union to support the Republic of Moldova. A parliamentary majority that rejects reforms and attacks the rule of law does not want a rapprochement with the European Union, but wants only to keep the country isolated, while the citizens of the Republic of Moldova hostage in an unreformed state with an economy that cannot offer welfare to the people,” added Siegfried Mureșan.
Under the decree signed by President Maia Sandu, snap parliamentary elections will be held in Moldova on July 11 this year.
