Creative industries present culture monetization potential, statement

The creative industries generate cultural value added and present the culture monetization potential. The mechanisms for developing these should be elaborated and encouraged. The creation of the platform MoldArte plays an important role in strengthening the creative industries. In the launch of the project MoldArte artistic director Mirela Spătaru said the platform presents the cultural market in Moldova, cultural players by a series of articles, interviews, podcasts and conferences on themes that refer to a number of institutions, independent artists. It enables to collect data about representatives of the sector of culture, with more people and institutions being added to the database. A number of 150 organizations and independent artists have been mapped so far. This is assistance for the organizations looking for artists in Moldova and for other cultural institutions with which they want to cooperate.

Vasile Braga, director of the Creative Industries Association of Moldova, said that at least 16,000 people work in this industry and over 2,500 companies form part of the creative industry by making architecture, games, films and music. “We want to have these data so as to be able to help them,” he stated.

Andriano Marian, founder, conductor of the Moldovan National Youth Orchestra, noted that the concept of MoldArte is very necessary, primarily in Moldova, for uniting actors from different fields. A common view on culture is needed. Even if there are strategies on paper, there is no common view as to how things should develop. There is a wide discrepancy between what is going on in Chisinau and in other districts, primarily in houses of culture.

“We all know the current situation and that harsh power was regrettably prioritized. We are sure that only through dialogue, including with our friends from Russia who found refuge and also other states, such as Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan, we can further encourage civil society by education and culture, This is a perspective we want to share with all our friends, including on the stage of the Republic of Moldova, so as to enable the platform MoldArte to exist further,” said Joachim Umlauf, director of the Goethe-Institute Bucharest.

The president of the Romanian Cultural Institute Liviu Sebastian Jicman said that the importance of creative industries, their capacity to generate cultural valued added and to contribute to the economy should be promoted both in Romania and in Moldova. The creative industries do not only consume money but also produce value added.

The MoldArte project, funded by EUNIC through the European Spaces of Culture, is organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institute Bucharest, the Austrian Embassy of the Republic of Moldova and the Delegation of the European Union from the Republic of Moldova.
