The creation of a mixed Moldovan-Romanian battalion has been long-awaited. The Republic of Moldova is in a special seismic zone and international practice shows that namely in exceptional cases the neighbors provide support to each other. The statement was made by ex-deputy minister of the interior Gennady Cosovan in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
“The communication and interaction of Moldovan and Romanian soldiers during professional training and maneuvers will add more value to the preparedness of the National Army by applying new European management and interaction concepts. This is rather favorable,” stated Gennady Cosovan.
According to Alexandru Popescu, Security and Intelligence Service colonel in reserve, the creation of this battalion fully matches the military doctrine of the Republic of Moldova. “These measures are related to the strengthening of national security, consolidation of the defense capacities of the state and the people, non-promotion of conflicts, strengthening of the capacities of the army,” he stated.
The creation of a mixed Moldovan-Romanian battalion was discussed during the visit paid by the Romanian Minister of National Defense Mihai Fifor to Chisinau on February 5, 2018.
