The classic Romanian writer Ion Creanga will be commemorated in Chisinau and Iasi simultaneously, for the third time in a row. Exhibitions, contests, screenings and recitals will take place in the two cities between February 27 and March 2. The program in Chisinau will start on February 27 with a symposium themed “Ion Creanga and spiritual regeneration” at the Library of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. During the day, students from different Chisinau schools will present a series of plays and mono-plays inspired by Ion Creanga’s works at the National Puppet Theater “Licurici”. A book exhibition titled “Ion Creanga – the Great Storyteller of Romanians” will be staged in the theater’s hall. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, director of the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga” Claudia Balaban said the program this year includes a creativity and intelligence contest themed “Miss Smarandita”. It is open to girls aged between 11 and 16, who know Creanga’s works very well. There will be also mounted the exhibition–contest “Most beautiful martsishor for Ion Creanga”. The Creanga Days are aimed at promoting the writer’s works and at familiarizing the children with his life and work. The program in Iasi will open with the third Literature Festival for Children “Ion Creanga” and a play put up by students. The University “Petre Andrei” will house communication sessions and debates on the topics: “Ion Creanga as a teacher”, “Fate of Ion Creanga’s manuscripts”, “Political adventure of Ion Creanga”, and “About Ion Creanga’s descendants”. The Creanga Days are organized by the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga”, the National Section in Moldova of the International Board on Books for Young People, and the Iasi Romanian Literature Museum, in partnership with other institutions from the two cities. On March 1, it is 176 years of the birth of the classic Romanian writer Ion Creanga.
