COVID-19 causes seven more deaths

Seven persons died because of COVID-19 on May 20. The victims include a doctor who worked at the Ungheni District Hospital. The death toll now rose to 228, IPN reports, with reference to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection.

The doctor was 69 and headed the Sculeni section of the Ungheni District Hospital. Earlier he worked as a dentist at the same hospital. On May 10, Gheorghe Popa was transferred from the Ungheni District Hospital to the National Clinical Hospital, where he lost the battle with COVID-19.

In a press briefing, Konstantin Rymish, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, said 213 infections with COVID-19 were confirmed on May 20. The infections recorded in Moldova so far number 6,553, 3,372 of which are active.

As many as 244 patients are in a serious state in the hospital and 22 of them were put on a ventilator.

Konstantin Rymish noted that 115 beneficiaries of the temporary placement center for persons with disabilities located in Bădiceni, Soroca, contracted the virus and 38 of them were hospitalized. Thirty-seven employees of the center got COVID-19 too. Twelve employees of the Intensive Care Section of the Strășeni District Hospital also got infected.

The official called on the population to obey the epidemiological measures so as to prevent the spread of infection.
