COVID-19 causes eight more victims, toll rises to 160

Eight persons aged between 52 and 83 succumbed to COVID-19 on May 9. The death toll from the disease now stands at 160, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, three women and four men died in the hospital on the right side of the Nistru River today. Four of them are from Chisinau, while the rest are from Glodeni, Strășeni and Călărași. The eighth victim, a woman aged 71, is from the Transnistrian region, as the de facto local ministry of the interior confirmed.

Of the infected persons who remain hospitalized, 257 are in a serious state and 21 of them were put on a ventilator.

As many as 99 infected persons who got cured were discharged from the hospital yesterday. A number of 1,925 persons of those diagnosed with COVID-19 recovered by now.

The number of infections with the novel coronavirus confirmed in Moldova so far is of 4,728, with 586 of these being recorded in the Transnistrian region. Of those infected, 1,150 are healthcare sector employees.
