Courts of law refuse to examine leasing of Chisinau Airport, PLR

The Liberal Reformist Party (PLR) said the courts of law refuse to accept the party’s application to consider annulling the documents based on which the Chisinau International Airport was leased out. The party’s MPs told a news conference that justice in Moldova is imperfect, while judges are afraid to assume responsibility.

PLR co-chairman Oleg Bodrug said the party opposed the leasing of the airport from the very beginning. Last September, the PLR filed a challenge to the Constitutional Court, which in October ruled that the case is within the competence of the common law courts. Thus, the PLR sued the Government, the Public Pottery Agency and the company “Avia Invest” SRL, filing a lawsuit at the Buiucani Court as the head offices of the three are situated in this district.

The court ruled that the plaintiffs must appeal to the Botanica Court as this case is within its competence. Afterward, the Chisinau Appeals Court adopted a decision by which it upheld the decision of the Buiucani Court.

As a result, the Liberal-Reformist lawmakers filed a lawsuit at the Botanica court, which sent back the application, saying the suit must be filed at the Centru Court. Now the lawmakers challenged the court’s decision at the Appeals Court. “The case may be transferred even to the Causeni District Court by this ping-pong,” stated Oleg Bodrug.

Valeriu Saharneanu said the party will do its utmost for the lease to be annulled. The Chisinau International Airport was leased out to a Russia company by a Government decision for a period of 49 years.
