Court session after appeal filed by “Zdob si Zdub” band is adjourned
The session regarding the appeal filed at the Court of Appeal of Chisinau by “Zdob si Zdub” band has been postponed for March 11. The judge made this decision because the band’s sound director did not come to the trial, as he had to suffer the most as a consequence of the car crash in which all the band were involved, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Zdob si Zdub” appealed to the Court of Appeal, dissatisfied with the punishment applied by the Court of Ciocana district to the driver guilty of the car crash in June. The driver was fined 6 thousand lei and suspended his driving license for a year.
“We think this sentence doesn’t comply with the seriousness of the violation. Because of the offender, people could have died, there were wounded persons, our instruments were damaged, concerts were canceled, and we suffered psychologically. Only due to our driver we remained alive,” Roman Yagupov, the soloist of the band stated for journalists.
According to Yagupov, the bus driver who collided with the minibus of the band was inebriated: “I saw he was drunk, he smelled bad, but I don’t know why expertise showed further he was sober.”
The members of “Zdob si Zdub” suspect that the court is corrupt. “We were not warned that for our fairness we would have to pay, as we see, all is solved only due to this factor – corruption,” Roman Yagupov said.
“Can you imagine that it is a well-known band, with two state awards, not a school orchestra... What happens then in such situations to ordinary people? They are treated simply as dirt,” director of the band Igor Danga added.
The band still doesn't have a minibus for tours. According to Danga, the Moldasig company will reward a half of the losses of the crash, after pronouncing the final writ. The band is ready to renounce the trial, if the driver commits to paying at least the other part of damages.
The driver and his lawyer refused to make statements for media.
The car crash took place in the night of June 7, 2008. The band’s minibus, heading to Italy, where it was to perform a concert for Moldovan immigrants, was rammed by a bus, running on the opposite lane. As a result, the members of the band got cuts and bruises. Sound producer Ion Moraru suffered the most, having a broken clavicle 5 sutures on his head and he stayed in hospital for about a month.
