The Bălți District Court has ordered the local electoral authority to revoke the registration of Shor Party’s Marina Tauber in the Bălți mayoral race, raising questions as to what will happen to the runoff that is scheduled for tomorrow.
The ruling can be appealed in an emergency procedure. Lawyers for Tauber said they will do so, but don’t expect a different outcome.
The removal decision means the court upheld the Central Electoral Commission’s findings that Tauber’s campaign committed financial violations. In particular, the CEC found that her campaign failed to declare expenses of at least $1,937, thus violating the legal upper limit by $538 or more.
In the first round, Tauber garnered almost 48%, leaving far behind the runner-up, independent Nikolai Grigorishin, with 21%.
