After four hours of deliberation, the Centru district court Wednesday rejected the application to order a recount of the votes given to the Chisinau Municipal Council, filed by the Liberal Party (PL). The party’s representatives said the decision is based on political reasons. The party has three days to challenge it in the Court of Appeals, Info-Prim Neo reports. The PL’s representative Teo Carnat said the decision was tendentious. “The Liberal Party had evidence showing that irregularities and mistakes were committed in the voting reports and could later influence the redistribution of seats on the Municipal Council. The court did not take the proofs presented by the PL into account. Persons informed that other people voted instead of dead persons,” stated Teo Carnat. The jurist is convinced that if a vote recount had been ordered, that seat that could influence the majority in the CMC would had been found. The Communist Party’s lawyer Pavel Midrigan said the court’s decision is legal and was taken on the basis of the presented evidence. According to him, the proofs did not convince the court of the necessity of a vote recount. However, Pavel Midrigan agreed that mistakes were made at some of the polling places, stressing that the observers and representatives of the electoral offices should be better instructed the next time. Iulian Balan, chairman of the Chisinau District Election Council, said the court’s decision is right and based on evidence. In the hearing, there were questioned a number of observers and representatives of electoral offices. The witnesses said that violations were committed at a number of polling places. In some of the cases, the observers were not allowed to work according to the law, while the ballots were counted incorrectly. One of the witnesses admitted to signing the voting report at 12.00 midnight. On June 14, the Buiucani court ordered recounting the votes cast for the Durlesti local council following an application submitted by the Communist Party.
