Court orders 30 days of arrest, puts Veaceslav Platon on wanted list

The Buiucani branch of the Chisinau City Appeals Court today accepted the request of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office to order 30 days of arrest for citizen Veaceslav Platon and to put him on the wanted list so as to implement the preventive measure against him. The measure was taken after Platon didn’t come to the hearing in the retried case started over active corruption and swindle against him, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The case was sent back by the Chisinau Appeals Court for retrial on January 30, 2020. Veaceslav Platon is accused of corrupting two guards of the Special Detachment “Pantera” of the Department of Penitentiary Institutions, who escorted him to courts of law, in December 2016. He is also accused of organizing the stealing of money from the accounts of three insurance companies in 2016, when he served as manager with majority shareholdings in these companies.

The Buiucani branch of the Chisinau City Court on August 2 interrupted the hearing in which they were to take a decision following the anticorruption prosecutor’s request to issue a warrant for the arrest of Veaceslav Platon and to list him wanted. Veaceslav Platon was offered ten days to appear before the judges. The hearing was adjourned until August 12.
