Court decision validating election outcome for CMC can be challenged by July 16

The deadline by which the court decision whereby the results of the elections for the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) were validated can be disputed is July 16. Contacted by phone by IPN’s reporter, spokesman for the Centru District Court of Chisinau Sergiu Tsipishca said that no challenge has so far been filed to the Centru Court, which validated the results.

The head of the Chisinau District Electoral Council Ion Turcan has told IPN that the outcome of the CMC elections was validated on July 13. The sentence is not definitive and can be disputed within three days. If the court decision is not challenged, the Central Election Commission will call the first meeting of the CMC.

On July 9, the Balti Appeals Court quashed the decision of the Centru Court by which a recount of the votes cast for the CMC was ordered and passed a new decision by which the Party of Socialists’ challenge was rejected. The Chisinau District Electoral Council’s request was accepted and the case concerning the validation of the election results was sent back to the Centru Court.
