Court annuls civil proceedings against President

The Centru District Court decided on Wednesday, April 25 to stop the civil proceedings against the President of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin, initiated by the leader of the National Liberal Party, Vitalia Pavlicenco. The court justified its decision by the fact that the head of state is not civilly liable in this case. Voronin was sued for the statements made against Vitalia Pavlicenco at a TV show. She requested the president to deny the statements and to pay damages worth MDL 500 thousand. Pavlicenco says she will take action in the higher court, and if necessary at the European Court of Human Rights. The decision of the court can be contested at the Chisinau Court of Appeals within 20 days.
