Couple badly injured while jaywalking
A married couple was severely injured while crossing the Gagarin Blvd. in an interdicted place.
Eufalia Negreata, doctor coordinator at the Emergency Hospital, has told Info-Prim Neo that the spouses, both aged 50, were crossing the Gagarin Blvd. on Thursday morning, ignoring the underground crosswalk, when they were stricken by an UAZ all-road vehicle. The husband suffered head trauma and a wound to the occipital zone. The impact for the woman was almost lethal – her cranium bones were crushed, and when the ambulance arrived, her unconscious body was shivering in convulsions.
At approximately the same time, a 53-year-old man suffered sudden death from cardiac arrest in a courtyard on the Columna str. Another man, 48, died at home, while a third one, aged 54, experienced a heart attack.
Dr. Negreata says the number of emergency calls from persons with cardiac and vascular problems has increased in the recent days. Over the past day alone, there were recorded 7 cases of brain stroke and 14 cases of acute coronary syndrome. In the same period, the emergency doctors responded to 823 calls, including 103 cases of acute viral diseases and 54 mumps reports.
