In 27 years Moldova’s population decreased by 1.29 million inhabitants or by 29.1%, shows the analysis carried out by economist Veaceslav Ionita, quoted by IPN.
According to the expert, the population on left bank of the Dniester was the most affected, registering a 36% decrease.
Veaceslav Ionita claims that in terms of population, Moldova is at the same level as 57 years ago -- in 1962, when it had 3.1 million citizens. In 1992, Moldova had 4.4 million inhabitants.
