Country’s food security will be ensured, agriculture minister
This summer’s harvest of first-group grains totaled 1.14 million tonnes, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumavcov.
The wheat yield amounted to 833,000 tonnes, as against 772,000 tonnes in 2010. The food wheat represents about 50% of this quantity.
“Thus, Moldova has the about 400,000 tonnes of food wheat needed to ensure the food security and the volume of seeds needed for the next year’s harvest. 200,000 tonnes of fodder wheat of the over 400,000 will be transported to companies that produce food for the animal-breeding sector, while the other about 200,000 tonnes will be exported,” said Vasile Bumacov.
