Counter-protest staged spontaneously in central Chisinau

A group of people mounted a spontaneous counter-protest in the square before the monument to Stephan the Great. With tricolors and flags of the European Union in their hands, they demanded that the Communist protesters should not promote chaos and disorder in the country. The event was started by several activists. Several dozen people joined them afterward, IPN reports.

A pensioner from Chisinau said that during eight years the Communists did nothing else, but bring poverty. “Now it is also hard, but at least we have repaired roads, schools and kindergarten, water supply systems, and good living conditions. There is yet a lot of work to be done, but it’s better than during the time of the Communists,” said the woman.

Another protester said that Moldova’s future is in the EU, whose policies ensure decent living conditions and a better life. According to him, the Communist MPs Artur Reshetnikov, Iurie Muntean and Eduard Musuc have Romanian passports and stage protests in order to cause chaos all over the country.

The Communists mounted a protest against the government in the Great National Assembly Square on November 23. It involved up to 15,000 people. About 100,000 people gathered in the central square of Chisinau on November 3 to express their support for the European course.
