Councilors suggest placing restrictions on constructions in historical center of Chisinau

Councilors of the Party of Communists proposed imposing a number of restrictions on building works in the historical center of Chisinau. The Municipal Council approved a draft decision by which the erecting of buildings higher than 12 meters in the historical center of the city, except for churches, is banned. The decision is to be improved by a working group that was constituted in the February 18 meeting of the Council, IPN reports.

The leader of the Communist group Vasili Chirtoca said the decision bans constructions in green areas and works to reconstruct or repair historical monuments that would modify the exterior. Another provision bans constructions in areas between buildings and sidewalks. There will also be banned the issuing of authorizations for construction in the absence of a Council decision and until the new General Urbanistic Plan is worked out.

The draft decision was approved by the votes of 29 councilors, including of the Party of Socialists, the European People’s Party, the “Our Party”, and independent councilor Ion Stefanita. The councilors also agreed that the provisions of the draft decision should be improved and thus created a working group to deal with this.

When it is finalized, the working group will propose the decision for public debates. It must be presented within 30 days.
