Councilors change their minds: Renasterii Blvd. will not be renamed Grigore Vieru
Renasterii Boulevard in Chisinau will not be renamed Grigore Vieru Boulevard. The municipal councilors said the March 26 decision was hasty and made in the context of the election campaign and sent it for reexamination, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I’m convinced that Grigore Vieru wouldn’t have liked that Renasterii Blvd. had been renamed as it symbolizes the national renaissance during 1988-1989. Its renaming will be in contradiction to Grigore Vieru’s entire life. We must make a considered and definite decision,” the president of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said.
At the same time, the secretary of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) Valeriu Didencu said that it is not possible to move the monument to the Heroes of the Comsomole from the Boulevard to the territory of the exhibitions center Moldexpo and put the monument to Grigore Vieru in its place. Moreover, the first is a monument of national importance.
The councilors decided to choose a new street and a new location for the monument to poet Grigore Vieru.
