Councilor accuses President of political settle of accounts
The municipal councilor Valeri Climenco considers that criminal procedures instituted against him by the Center for Economic Crimes and Corruption Fight (CECCF) and the Anticorruption Prosecution Office is “an order” of the president of the Republic of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin. This was declared by Climenco on Thursday, June 8 within a meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC).
The Municipal Councilor declared that this order was confirmed by the employees of CECCF and by prosecutors that have stated that have the mission to bring the penal procedure into Court. According to Climenco, the employees of CECCF and the prosecutors justified that they are executing what their superiors are ordering, risking, otherwise to be dismissed and in this way losing the possibility to support their families.
Climenco states that the goal of Voronin is to eliminate him out of the political arena, because, he mentioned, more and more Russian voters become supporters of “Ravnopravie” Movement which he leads. According to him, the president concentrated in his hands the legal bodies, inclusively CECCF. At the same time, Climenco qualified the actions of the head of state as “a direct attack towards national minorities” and announced that soon the leaders of several ethno-cultural associations will make declarations upon this case.
As retort, the municipal councilor of the Communist Party, Grigore Myra disapproved on behalf of the faction the habit of pointing at the head of state every time penal proceedings are instituted against someone, terming it as “bad tradition”. Myra states that “such kind of accusations can not be brought to Vladimir Voronin because democracy speaks about presumption of innocence” and that “it is incorrect to make political advertisement at CMC meetings, on the base of penal proceedings against someone”
CECCF together with the Anticorruption Prosecutor Office announced few days ago about initiating proceedings against Valeri Climenco, because he is suspected of embezzling 1 million lei from the municipal budget, through “Diamante si Tehnologii”(“Diamonds and Technologies”). His daughter, Tatiana Climenco, is the head of this firm.
