Council of Europe’s Secretary General to officiate at launch of National Institute of Justice

Secretary General of the Council of Europe Terry Davis will visit Chisinau on November 9 to open the new National Institute of Justice with the President of the Republic of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin. The National Institute of Justice has been set up as part of the judicial reform process carried out in Moldova in co-operation with the Council of Europe, with the support of the European Commission. It will provide initial and in-service training for judges, prosecutors and other members of the legal service, helping to increase professionalism and efficiency in the judicial system. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for 4:30 to 5:00 pm on Serghei Lazo Street 1. In addition, Terry Davis will hold talks with President Vladimir Voronin, Prime-Minister Vasile Tarlev and Deputy Prime-Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan. Moldova became member of the Council of Europe in 1995.
