Council of doctors to take decision if patient cannot express wish

If the patient cannot expressed their wish and the legal representative or a close relative refuses to sign the medical document needed for saving the person’s life, a decision will be taken by the council of doctors in the interests of the patient. Parliament adopted a bill to amend the law on the rights and responsibilities of the patient, IPN reports.

The bill provides that the doctors will have to consult the patients who didn’t come of age when these are competent. If a minor patient cannot express their wish and the legal representative of this refuses, the doctors can administer the necessary treatment to this patient.

Also, the patient will be responsible for informing the doctor or the pharmacist if they don’t understand the furnished information and for following the treatment recommended by the doctor.

The goal of the bill that was drafted by PAS MPs Maria Pancu, Ana Oglinda and Adrian Belyi, with the last two being doctors by profession, is to improve the quality of service in the healthcare system so as to increase life expectancy, satisfy the needs of patients and facilitate mutual cooperation between the patient the and doctor.

The MPs are to give a final reading to this bill.
