Cossacks hinder Corjova residents from taking part in Peace March
The traditional Peace March held in Corjova village of Dubasari district may not take place. Cossacks are trying to intimidate the locals into not taking part in the event, war veteran and ex-mayor of the village Valeriu Mitul has told Promo-Lex Association.
“The village is full of special cars for transporting detainees, firefighting vehicles and ambulances and this is without precedent,” stated Valeriu Mitul.
On March 2 every year, the inhabitants of Corjova stage the Peace March to commemorate the victims of the armed conflict on the Nistru. Each year, this event has been held under the supervision of the Transnistrian militia. There were cases when persons attending the event were arrested illegally.
Promo-Lex announced that early in the morning a large number of vehicles blocked the main intersections in Corjova. Civilians with flags of the breakaway republic have mounted a protest in order to intimidate and provoke the residents.
