Cosauti border crossing point closed due to high level of water

The hovercraft border crossing point Cosauti stopped work on a temporary basis after the level of water in the Nistru River went up. Travelers can choose the hovercraft border crossing point Soroca or the vehicle border crossing point Otaci that are situated at a distance of up to 50 km, IPN reports.

The State Hydrometeorological Service said the level of water in the Nistru on Moldova’s territory is expected to rise by over 1 meter until July 9 following the heavy rain and the rise in the volume of water discharged from the Dnestrovsk accumulation late to 1,000 m3/s. Floods are expected in the lower course of the river.

The level of water in the Prut River in the upper course of the river in Ukraine is also anticipated to rise by up to 1 meter until July 2. Floods are possible in Briceni and Edinet districts.

Moldova’s Water Agency vice director Radu Stratuta told IPN several months ago that the levees built in the country can resist discharges of up to 1,000 m3/s. If the volume is larger and there is precipitation in Moldova, floods can occur on some portions, but these would not affect localities.
