Corruption in two examination centers for obtaining driver’s licenses

False documents, sets of incomplete documents and exams taken by persons who are abroad were found at two examination centers for obtaining drivers’ licenses in Straseni and Causeni during the first month of the modification of the examination procedure, IPN reports.

Acceding to Information and Communication Technology Minister Pavel Filip, the incidents happened during the first days of the coming into force of the changes, when the centers didn’t yet have the necessary equipment, including surveillance cameras.

“In Straseni district, 150 candidates came to the exam on August 13. 85% of them passed the exam. It is something unordinary as not more than 40 people a day usually take the exam in this district,” Pavel Filip said in a press briefing.

The cases are investigated by the National Anticorruption Center.

On August 1, the procedure for obtaining the driver’s license was changed. The number of examination centers was decreased by about 50%, while the vehicles and the examination halls were outfitted with the necessary equipment, including video cameras and sound recording devices.
