The activity to prevent and fight corruption that undermines national security was declared the top priority of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) for 2021. The phenomenon was raised in the meeting of the SIS Board as a result of discussions held by the President of Moldova Maia Sandu and SIS director Alexandr Esaulenco, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the institution.
Alexandr Esaulenco said the phenomenon of corruption during the last few years developed into the most serious threat to national security and the number of investigations conducted by SIS officers into cases with the biggest socioeconomic impact is a proof of this. The institution focused on a number of corruption processes in such sectors as state affairs, justice, strategic sectors of the economy and financial-banking, fiscal and customs sectors.
The SIS director spoke about the objectives set by the institution for 2021 and the planned special measures that will contribute to ensuring and maintaining national security. He reiterated the main internal and external risk factors that took shape this year and mentioned the steps taken by the SIS to annihilate them.
