Cornesti center for rehabilitation of children with tuberculosis may be relocated

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Moldovanu asked the Ministry of Health to take measures in the case of the patients hospitalized at the center for rehabilitation of children with tuberculosis based in Cornesti, Ungheni. The request was made in the meeting of the commission for implementing the National Action Plan on Human Rights for 2011-2014. Mihai Moldovanu asked repairing the institution or relocating it to a new building, Info-Prim Neo reports. There are about 100 children with tuberculosis virus at the Cornesti center for rehabilitation. “Their rights are violated. There are by seven children in one room. It is not a sanatorium, but a disaster,” said Mihai Moldovanu. Deputy Minister of Health Gheorghe Turcanu explained that such children cannot be left in the family as they need to receive treatment for at least three months. There is not enough money to carry out repair works at this center, equip it and buy appropriate food for children. “It is examined the possibility of relocating the institution from Cornesti to another area, where there is a better building,” he stated. The Center for Human Rights issued a communiqué concerning the situation of tuberculosis morbidity, in particular the cases of tuberculosis in the districts of Cahul, Donduseni, and Comrat. Ombudsman Anatolie Munteanu expressed his regret at the fact that the state institutions did not take definite measures to liquidate the outbreaks and to prevent this disease.
