Corneliu Gurin leaves post of prosecutor general

Corneliu Gurin will vacate his seat on March 1. In the February 26 sitting of Parliament, this said that the reform of the prosecution service must start from the top of the system, IPN reports.

Corneliu Gurin thanked the MPs for adopting the Law on the Prosecution Service, saying the package of related laws is now to be passed and the law can be implemented afterward. In the summer of 2013, when he was invested as prosecutor general, he said that creating a good legal framework for the work of the prosecution service was the priority of his tenure.

“I decided to come before Parliament to announce my resignation. I will quit on March 1. I consider it is important to begin the reform from the upper level,” stated Corneliu Gurin.

The new Law on the Prosecution Service provides that the prosecutor general will be chosen at a public contest.
