The local councilor of Corjeuți village of Briceni district, who last February hit mortality a seven-year-old boy by his car on a local street while under the influence of alcohol and left the place of the accident, was sentenced by the Supreme Court of Justice, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The impact was so violent that the minor who walked accompanied by his mother died on the spot. The culprit travelled home, parked his car and went to sleep. He was apprehended shortly afterward and was held in remand detention until the ordinary court passed its judgment.
The Briceni branch of the Edinet City Court gave him a suspended sentence of three years and two months and the councilor was released from detention in the courtroom.
The prosecutors challenged the sentence to the Balti Appeals Court, but this rejected the appeal. Recently, the Supreme Court of Justice accepted the appeal and sentenced the hit-and-run driver to three years and two months in jail. Its sentence is irrevocable.
