The phenomenon of copying in Baccalaureate exams is considered natural by most of the high school students as well as their parents, shows a study made based on the experience of the 2012 Baccalaureate session. According to the study, the students’ major goal is to get high grades at any cost, the Baccalaureate exams being considered an entrance ticket to university, IPN reports.
Deputy Minister of Education Igor Grosu told a news conference that the aim of the study was to identify irregularities in the examination process so as to make improvements.
In order to prevent cheating in the Baccalaureate exams, video cameras will be installed in examination halls and in grading halls. The works will be scanned before and after grading,” said Anatol Topala, director of the Quality Ensuring Agency.
Anatol Gremalschi, expert of Magenta Consulting that carried out the study, said there are students able to pass the exams without copying, but they have to resort to such methods too so as not to be surpassed by those who cheat in exams. “The voice of those who want high grades is much more powerful than of those who learn and expect to get the grades they deserve,” he stated.
According to the study, none of the respondents denied that they cheat in exams. A part of them consider that about 10-20% of the works are copied, while others consider that these works represent even 90%.
Teachers believe video supervision is a method that should not disturb the students, while jamming is considered a positive method only by the teachers whose students are ready for exams. The lecturers consider that the students are not appropriately prepared in school for continuing the studies in universities. According to them, the high school graduates come with high grades on the Baccalaureate exams, but they do not have developed intellectual abilities.
The experts of Magenta Consulting suggested that the Baccalaureate exams should be taken on computers, while the test papers should be worked out for every student apart. They also proposed working out a database with all the exam items from the previous years so that the students examine them.
The sociological study made by Magenta Consulting was commissioned by the Education Ministry.
